JAMMU, Feb 19: Surya Saptami (Birthday of Maha Martand Ji) was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety today at holy Martand Shrine in Mattan in South Kashmir district of Anantnag as well as Surya Bhawan, Paloura, Jammu.
The function was organised by Martand Tirath Trust. A Maha Yagya was solemnized on the occasion which started yesterday evening and concluded with Puranahuti this afternoon. It was followed by serving of Prashad to devotees who participated in the function from different corners of Jammu and paid their obeisance to Sun God.
Various other programmes were also organised during the function which included Bhajan Mandlis of different parties. Shanti Lal Sidha a well known bhajan singer sung devotional bhajans in praise of Lord.
President of the Trust, A K Sidha , Swami Kumar Ji and Dr Ramesh threw light on the significance of the day. A Samohik prayer was held for peace and prosperity of mankind.
On the occasion Sagreh Chalisa, Shani Chalisa and a Dharmik Calender published by Vijayeshwar Karyalya, Gole Gujral was also released and distributed among devotees. The Chalisas were compiled by Jyotshi Avtar Krishan Shastri of Jyotshi Karyalya Gole Gujral.
Besides, a book Ram Nam Amrit was also released in the function.
