The Supreme Court has today ordered the shifting of detained CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Delhi.
While passing the order, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said,
“Tarigami’s health is a top priority.”
The Bench of CJI Gogoi and Justices SA Bobde and S Abdul Nazeer also issued notice to the Centre in the affidavit filed by CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury.
The Court passed this order in a habeas corpus petition filed by CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury seeking the production of his detained party colleague Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami.
During the last hearing, the Court had allowed Yechury to travel to Kashmir in order to meet Tarigami. The Court had further said that Yechury would have to file an affidavit before the Supreme Court upon their return from the valley.
Yechury had moved the Supreme Court after he had traveled to Srinagar earlier in August along with CPI leader D Raja with the purpose of meeting with Tarigami, only to be detained at the airport. It was claimed that Tarigami was not in good health.
Senior Advocate Raju Ramachandran, representing Yechury, had agreed to the conditions imposed by the Court on Yechury’s visit to Kashmir.
