Sunil reviews functioning of MVD, SMGD

SRINAGAR, Oct 24: Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma, today chaired a joint meeting of officials to review the functioning of Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) and State Motor Garages Department (SMGD).
The officials of the MVD and SMGD informed the Minister about their current working mechanism and services being provided to the public.
The Minister directed concerned to make departments public savvy and bring transparency in the system by introducing online service to do away with touting system. He also directed to implement Vahan 4.0 software service in Kashmir so that people get registration at dealer level.
The Minister directed the concerned to prepare comprehensive plans for road safety week 2017. He also stressed on conducting public awareness camps in schools, colleges, universities and at public places to make people aware about the traffic rules and regulations to reduce accident rate across the State.
He directed to make progress report of Passenger Welfare Funds and simplify its mechanism so that road accident victims get benefited. He also directed officials to identify land for Inspection and Certification Centre (ICC) and Institute of Driving Training and Research (ITDR) at earliest.
He also directed the concerned to make auto metering, pollution checking centers fully functional and stressed on the use of seat belts and helmets.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Transport Bipul Pathak, Special Secretary Transport Itrat Hussain Rafiqui, RTO Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Rather, Director SMG Kashmir, Deputy Director SMG Kashmir and various officials from MVD and SMGD.
