POONCH/ JAMMU, Nov 14: Sunil Sharma (Ind candidate), an eminent lawyer and social activist was today elected as the Chairman of Municipal Council, Poonch.
He emerged victorious in a close contest and defeated the opponent with a margin of one vote. It was surprising to note that the opposing candidate was supported by both the BJP as well as Congress. Despite stiff competition, the independent candidates reposed their faith in Sharma, who happens to be brother of PDP MLC Yash Paul Sharma. Ms Umera got elected as the Deputy Chairperson of Municipal Council, Poonch.
After the announcement of results a victory procession was taken out by the winning candidates and their well wishers in the town.
Meanwhile, from Municipal Committee, Surankote, Mumtaz Ahmed was elected as President while Sanjeet Kumar as Vice President.
The BJP won the Municipal Committee of Gho Manasa unopposed with its Councilors Rajinder Singh Chib and Krishan Lal elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
BJP’s State secretary and Prabhari Jammu Rural Aseem Gupta and State Prabhari Kissan Morcha Karan Singh along with many BJP activists accompanied the BJP Councilors on the occasion. Chib is also heading BJP’s State Kissan Morcha.
