SAMBA, May 29: The residents of Sumb village today blocked Samba-Sumb road and staged a protest over demand of shifting of the buses and mini buses to newly constructed Bus Stand in Samba.
A large number of people led by Sarpanch Suraj Prakash Verma,  gathered at Main Chowk in Sumb and raised slogans against the temporary shifting of Bus Stand to Tehsil Office road. The protesters blocked the vehicular movement for more than four hours on the Sumb road, leading to long traffic snarls.
“The temporary shifting of bus stand is injustice with the people of Sumb and adjoining villages. The people are facing difficulties as existing bus stand is too far from District Hospital and Main Market. We demand that buses and mini-buses should be shifted to newly constructed bus stand complex on Jammu-Pathankot Highway for the benefit of passengers, said Suraj Prakash Verma, local Sarpanch.
People are facing lot hardships as it takes at least half an hour to reach District Hospital, Main Bazaar and other destinations. Though, we have informed the authorities regarding the problem, but nothing has been done so far, he said.
Later, senior officials along with police officials reached the spot and assured that District Administration will hold a public meeting on Monday and their issue will be solved after consulting with the authorities concerned.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and the vehicular movement on the Sumb road was restored.
