Sukhnandan calls on Union Minister, demands supply of fertilizers

JAMMU, Oct 17: Former Minister and Chairman Panchayati Raj Cell BJP JKUT Ch.Sukhnandan Kumar today met Union Minister for Health &Family Welfare and Chemical & Fertilizers, Mansukh Mandavia and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate supply of fertilizers specially DAP for the farmers of J&K UT in general and Jammu Province in particular.
Former Minister apprised Union Minister about the agony of farmers in J&K & situation emerging due to short supply of fertilizer specially DAP in the peak season.
“Fertilizers are one of the most important inputs for the farming community, but it has been in short supply in J&K for the months of September and October, which is the sowing season of early variety crops of wheat, winter vegetables, cattle fodder crops etc..But due to shortage of fertilizer specially DAP(Dia ammonia phosphate) the farming community in J&K in general and in Jammu division in particular are not in the position to sow these crops well in time .Late sowing of crops may result low yield which ultimately affects the production.
Winter crops are not only key crop cycle for the farmers but are equally important for the growth of J&K economy which largely depends on agriculture &Horticulture sectors,” the memorandum read. He also asserted that short supply of fertilizers to J&K UT at this juncture will adversely affects the agricultural production and unnecessarily invite law and order in the UT.
Union Minister assured him that he will speak to Ministry officials and advise them to ensure the supply of fertilizers specially DAP to J&K UT with in week’s time. He assured that supply of fertilizers to J&K will be streamlined with in a week and there will be no shortage in the future also, as J&K is on the top most priority of the Central Government.
