This has reference to news items pertaining to suicides incidents published in the D E July 23.
The increase in suicide incidents is a cause of concern for society and social scientists. Not a single day passes when one does not come across news items pertaining to suicides. These incidents should serve as a wake up call for social scientists and political thinkers to look into the causes behind these incidents besides suggesting measures to overcome this social malaise.
The suicide among students is a normal feature. Failing to live upto expectations of parents and teachers, most of the times students take this extreme step. There is urgent need to debate the issue holistically. The educationists, have to find ways to deal with the situation, and to see what is wrong with the education system.
The suicides whether in armed forces, students or women is a cause of concern and should not be dismissed lightly.
