Sugar prices climb on renewed demand, lower supply

NEW DELHI, May 1:  Buoyed by robust demand, driven by beginning of new month and tight supplies from mills, sugar showed a spurt of Rs 50 in its prices at the wholesale market in the national capital today.
Marketmen said besides strong demand from bulk consumers, stockists and retailers for the new month, restricted arrivals from mills, mainly attributed the rise in sweetener prices.
Sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices jumped up by Rs 50 each to end at Rs 3,600-3,760 and Rs 3,590-3,750 per quintal.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices climbed up by Rs 40 each to conclude at Rs 4,000-4,080 and Rs 3.990-4,070 per quintal.
Meanwhile, in the retail markets, sugar prices have been quoting in the range of Rs 43 to Rs 45 per quintal.
In the millgate section, sugar Kinnoni shot up by Rs 50 to settle at Rs 3,760, followed by Khatuli, Baghpat and Sakoti flared up by Rs 40 each to Rs 3,730, Rs 3,620 and Rs 3,660 per quintal.
Sugar Morna and Nazibabad hardened by Rs 35 each to Rs 3,610 and Rs 3,600, while Asmoli, Dhanora, Simbholi, Anupshaher, Chandpur and Modinagar advanced by Rs 30 each to Rs 3,720, Rs 3,710, Rs 3,720, Rs 3,600, Rs 3,650 and Rs 3,680 per quintal, respectively.
