SRINAGAR, Nov 28: Chairperson of Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi today said that Sufi shrines can not be allowed to become business centres for `a few people’ for their vested interests.
Speaking to the media persons at Aishmuqam, Dr Andrabi said that in the new Waqf Board set up, transparency and accountability will be ensured. She said that with the public support only, the Waqf Board can achieve the goals of purifying the Sufi shrines of J&K from the `filth’ created by some vested interests and the political interference.
“Many opportunists and vested interests are trying to disturb the reformatory steps and decisions being taken by the new Waqf Board, but the majority of the devotionally recharged people of the land have welcomed our decisions. There is a big change in the shrine management everywhere but yet many more reforms are to follow,” Darakhshan maintained.
Briefing about the digitization process in Waqf, Dr Andrabi said that soon all major shrines in J&K will be under CCTV surveillance & within a few months, we will introduce e-payment systems at the shrines. “The Waqf educational institutions will also undergo major transformations. Rent management system is being upgraded and we are hopeful to enhance our income from our assets manifold soon,” Waqf Board Chairperson said.
She strongly rejected the claims of all those who often present themselves before media as the qualified and eligible receivers of donations for their `individual luxuries’ and said that nobody will be allowed to mint money at shrines and all those individuals who want to serve at the shrine, may offer their services for which they are welcome.
“Nobody will be allowed to turn Sufi-shrines into individual business centres and the Waqf Board will take on all of them. We have taken these decisions as per the provisions of the Central Waqf Act & nobody will be allowed to incite people. Those who indulge in such provocative statements will be dealt with as per the law,” Dr Darakhshan asserted.
Earlier, she inspected the ongoing construction works at the shrine of Hazrat Sakhi Zainuddin Wali (RA) at Aishmuqam where Waqf Board has started work on modern complexes at the shrine. She offered prayers and also met the public delegations and spoke to the staff there. Executive Magistrate of the Board, Ishtiyaq Mohiuddin accompanied Dr Andrabi.
