SRINAGAR, May 12: Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today said that ‘Youth Parliament’ provides platform for the youth to speak up and impact agenda for change. He said the platform inspires the youth to express their views in an organised manner and facilitate grooming of future leaders.
The Minister was speaking on the occasion of first ever ‘Youth Parliament’ organised in the State. The Group Level Competition for the 12th National Youth Parliament was organised by the Department of Student Welfare, University of Kashmir.
Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Khursid I Andrabi was the guest of honour, while as Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, Prof. Mairaj-ud-Din, Group Coordinator, Union Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Harshad Bhosale and Deans and faculty of various departments were also present on the occasion.
Reiterating the commitment of giving focused attention to human resource development in the State, the Minister said that he has been trying to identify himself with the community of teachers and students and making efforts to bring back the glory of education system with focus on students. “We have to make a conscious effort to build human resource out of opportunities, hope, encouragement, talent, untapped energies and unexploited potential that we have,” the Minister said.
With a view to strengthen the roots of democracy and to encourage democratic culture, the Minister suggested to expand and extend such events as the Youth Parliament to other colleges also and to have inter-college debates in this regard. He also suggested the Vice Chancellor to take a lead role to have a formal students union in the University because it is them who ultimately make the future leaders.
Appreciating the efforts put in by the participants of the Youth Parliament, the Minister said they have done their homework well. He spoke in depth on various important contemporary topics.
Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir also spoke on the occasion and congratulated the participants for their enthusiastic performance.
Vice Chancellor Central University of Kashmir who also the judge for the Youth Parliament terms the proceeding of the Parliament as superlative degrees of ethics displayed during the proceedings.
The winners of the group level competition will be invited by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs to participate in the National Youth Parliament.
