JAMMU, Apr 25: Far away from trappings of the mundane world of senses generally represented by the artists in easily comprehensible tools of realism, Subhash Razdan’s solo art exhibition titled ‘Pashyanti’, is a successful labour of love to dwell into world of ‘naad’ through Indian visual tradition of scared geometry.
The three-day exhibition showcasing 64 black and white drawings by Subhash Razdan, was inaugurated by Prof M P Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and artist’s nonagenarian father Pandit Amar Nath Razdan, at Rinchen bZangpo Art gallery, Zorawar auditorium Complex, here today.
The exhibition came out as a somber experience for the spectators as the works are outcome of artist’s meditative interplay of sub-conscious to visualize in compositions of timeless shapes and forms in black and white, the native philosophy of eternal reality of light and vibration -‘naad’, especially Pashyanti, the third form of ‘dhvani’, which represents intellectual consciousness that can only be visualized in form and colors.
Unlike many of his present day fellow artists trying to express in modernist language of contemporary art, Subhash Razdan has gone back to his roots of ethnic Kashmir Shaivite practices, and visualized ‘bijakshras’ of mantras of Bahurupa Garbha Stotra that as a practice is recited in Kashmiri Pandit households, in the beginning and end of the ritual of Shivopasana.
The significant exhibition which places Subhash Razdan in the family of neo-tantric artists like G R Santosh, P T Reddy, Biren Dey and others who from 1960s onward, forged a new idiom in Indian modern art by taking inspiration from the visual repertoire of ancient Tantric art.
Today’s inaugural function was also attended by Mrs. Lida Singh, Prof Anita Billawaria, Director, Rinchin bZangpo Art Gallery, Prof Jasbir Singh, Dr Anupama Vohra and Prof Jaikumar.
