INDORE, May 18 : The Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) management in Indore on Monday decided to impose a fine of Rs 25,000 each on at least 50 engineering students and withhold their examination results over vandalism and unruly behaviour at a hostel in a semi-nude and inebriated state.
Government property suffered substantial damage during the incident at the university hostel and it has been decided to impose a fine of Rs 25,000 on each student found involved in the incident, DAVV Vice-Chancellor Rakesh Singhai told PTI.
“Their examination results have been withheld till completion of the inquiry. The students involved have been directed to vacate the hostel immediately and their parents are also being called to the university,” Singhai informed.
The matter came to light after videos from Ramanujan Hostel of DAVV’s Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) surfaced on social media, which showed several engineering students in a semi-nude state dancing and damaging plastic chairs, tables and a water tank early Sunday.
Glass panes of some hostel windows were also found broken after the incident.
Officials said final-year BTech students allegedly created ruckus after consuming liquor during celebrations marking completion of their studies.
IET director Pratosh Bansal said at least 50 students were involved in the incident, though identification was proving difficult as some videos were blurred. (PTI)
