LEH, Jan 1: Demanding safeguard for Ladakh region, Students Associations under the banner of Students Organisation of Unified Ladakh (SOUL) resumed their protest dharna from today.
Braving the bone chilling minus temperature in the region, the student sat on protest dharna in a tent at old bus stand here.
The protest will continue till January 12 and if nothing happens till that time, the students will further intensify their protest through chain hunger strike protest.

Interacting with media persons, Ladakh Students’ Educational and Environmental Action Forum (LEAF) Chief Coordinator Jigmet Paljor said that this is not the issue of students only but the issue of entire Ladakh as every having children need to think for the future. He said that if there is no safeguard, Ladakhis students will have no future.
“We are trying to convey our concern message to Prime Minister to think about the future of Ladakh and demand constitutional safeguard for Ladakh” said Paljor and appealed to the public to join their protest dharna.
He appealed to the public to support their demands and expressed his hope that all religious organizations and political leaders will extend their support to the students. He appeals that if public cant join them physically they can extend financial support and moral support to continue their agitation and added that students are doing crowd funding that will be used for such protest.
It may be mention here the following the deteriorating health status of the agitating students especially girls, the students called off their protest hunger strike on December 16.
Another unemployed engineering student Rigzin Angmo said that 6th schedule in the best solution to Ladakh and without safeguard Ladakhi student will have no future. She added that after becoming Ladakh UT even district cadre post will be open for all which means Ladakhis will have to compete with entire nation student for district cadre post as the exams will be conducted by UPSC.
Ladakh Students Welfare Society (LSWS) Delhi led by President Stanzin Thardot will hold a protest rally on Jantar Mantar tomorrow to demands constitutional safeguard to Ladakh. Stanzin in a telephonic conversation informed that the main objective of protest is to demand tribal status to Ladakh region and all Ladakhi students studying in different universities of Delhi and Ladakhi people residing in Delhi will join the protest.
SOUL President Rigzin Dorjay and Advisor Stanzin Tsetan left for Delhi to join the protest at Jantar Mantar tomorrow to demand constitutional safeguard.
