REASI, Aug 28: Up in arms against alleged overcharging by public transport vehicles from them, students of Angralla held a strong protest demonstration on Angralla- Mahore road and disrupted traffic movement for about two hours here today.
The protesting students shouted slogans against Transport Minister, Regional Transport Officer, and Administration. They alleged that students traveling in mini buses, Sumos and buses are not given concession in fare and forcibly de-boarded from the vehicles. They demanded special transport facility between Angralla and Mahore for students.
Students also alleged that the minibus operators were plying public transport on the route on their own terms and conditions instead of obeying the general transport rules. The female students are also harassed, misbehaved and made to pay full fare by the transporters, they added.
Asking the Administration to intervene and solve the issue, the protesting students threatened to l block road for long time in near future and stall the movement of all vehicles if no action is taken on their demand.
Later, some senior police and civil officers reached the spot and pacified the agitating students. They assured to look into their grievances and resolve the issue. On assurance from Administration, the agitating students lifted the dharna.
