JAMMU, Nov 19: The students of Jammu University held protest against police highhandedness, here today.
As per reports, a large number of students from Jammu University assembled near the main gate of the varsity and held protest. They also blocked the vehicular movement on the University road and raised slogans against the Police Department.

The protesting students were demanding immediate action against the police cops, who cane charged the protesting Gujjar Hostel inmates near GGM Science College yesterday.
“We held protest against cane charging by the police cops on the inmates of the Gujjar Hostel near GGM Science College yesterday. One of the scholar also got injured in the incident”, a research scholar, who was also present during the protest said.
“We want action against the cops involved in cane charging the Gujjar and Bakerwal youth”, he demanded.
On getting information, police team led by SDPO South rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesting students, but failed as protestors were demanding presence of SSP Jammu on the spot.
Later, SP South Vinay Sharma reached the spot and held negotiation with the protestors. He assured them of action against the cops involved in cane charging the protesting Gujjar Hostel inmates.
“JKP’s clear cut policy is to not harm the students by any means. SOP has been violated by the cops and action will be taken against the violators”, he added.
“If an ambulance was stuck in the protest, it is negligence of the Traffic cops present there, who failed to divert the ambulance from any other alternate route”, he added.
“I will talk to SSP Jammu and recommend suspension of the cops, who cane charged the inmates of the Gujjar Hostel inmates. Once the SOP’s violators are suspended or action has been initiated against them, we also recommend magisterial enquiry into the incident”, SP Vinay Sharma told the protesting students.
On the assurance by the SP South Vinay Sharma, the protesting students dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
While talking to the EXCELSIOR, SP South Vinay Sharma informed that 3 cops involved in cane charging the Gujjar Hostel inmates have been attached with DPL and enquiry has been initiated by SSP Jammu. The enquiry will be conducted by SP Rural Jammu, he added.
