SRINAGAR, Feb 21: The students as well as the parents of Orbit Girls School Nowgam today staged a protest against the school’s move to merge with the MET School, Baghat.
Scores of girl students with their parents appeared in the Press Enclave, raising slogans in favour of their demands, holding placards, urged the administration to look into the matter and save the career of the students.
“For the last three years, I paid the fee and now that the schools are reopening, they are telling us that the school has been merged with a school which is defunct,” one of the parents said.
He said that the school has jeopardised the career of students as no school is going to admit them at this point. “We urge the administration to intervene in the matter as such decisions add to the mental agony of the students,” he said.
Parents said that if the schools not going to do away with the merger, “then our daughters should be given admission to girls-only school so that their career is saved.”
The parents alleged that the move was carried out without consulting them. “We have deposited the fee, and now the school administration is telling us a different story.”
One of the students said that they do not want to go to the MET School because that is not a good school. “We had a good school, had good students. We won’t eat anything if the move is not halted,” she said.
