JAMMU, Dec 24: Students today held protest demonstration at Akhnoor against the gang-rape, which took place at Chigani in Gharota.
Amid slogans, hundreds of students from various institutions of tehsil Akhnoor disrupted the vehicular movement on the highway near Akhnoor. The protestors were demanding arrest of the rapists at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Gharota Police claimed to have arrested both the accused persons, who outraged the modesty of 18-year-old girl in the forest area of Chigani on the intervening nights of December 22-23.
A Police spokesman said that girl lodged a complaint with Gharota Police that driver of a mini-bus Tarsem Singh alias Gian Singh, son of Shinda of Ranjan along with his friend Shammi, son of Dharam Chand of Jandial abducted her and took her to forest area in Chigani, where they raped her.
On the complaint of victim, a case under FIR number 114/ 12 under Section 376 RPC was registered. Medical examination of the girl was also conducted.
On getting information from reliable source, Police party from Gharota led by SHO Rattan Singh conducted a raid and arrested the accused persons.
