Student of GHS Poyen gets Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite Award

LEH, Dec 9: Sayeeda Banoo of Government High School Poyen has brought laurels to Ladakh UT by getting Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite Award for her idea of Precipitation Absorbing Shoe during a function organized by National Innovation Foundation-India at Amrapur (Gandhinagar), Gujarat.
As many as 21 creative and innovative children from across India have been conferred with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite Awards by former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee for their 18 distinct ideas and innovations.
Speaking on her achievement, Sayeeda Banoo said that she wants to have an odour free foot that is why she suggested using absorbent material on the inner walls/lining of the shoe, in addition to insole, so that sweat can be easily absorbed. She said that this will not only take care of the hygiene but also keep feet odour free.
She said that over 60,000 submissions of students from 544 districts of all the states and union territories of India received during the Ignite 2019 competition, which ran from September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2019. “The award winners hail from nine states and union territories, representing the diversity of India,” she added.
The father of the student, Mohammad Qasim said that the idea of his daughter has been patented and a certificate has also been issued, which has proved that talent should be groomed to get the right place.
Headmistress of the School Badrun Nissa, while expressing her joy, said that there is never a dearth of talent but the right platform for grooming the talent of the student. She presented a cash award to the student and advised her to grab this opportunity to be a role model for the future generation.
