Student killed in mishap, massive clashes erupt

Srinagar, Jan 7: Clashes rocked Nowgam area of Srinagar after a class 10th student was killed and a girl critically injured after a police vehicle collided with a private vehicle in the area this morning.
Two others sustained fire-arm injuries after police resorted to firing in the area to disperse the protestors.
The boy was identified as Tehseen Nazir, son of Nazir Ahmad of Nowgam, a 10th standard student of Candid Public School. The injured girl was identified as Haleema, a resident of Chatergam, Budgam area of Central Kashmir.

Tehseen was on way for tuitions when an over-speeding Police vehicle first hit the private vehicle Alto K-10 bearing number, JK01 AK 4408 and later hit him. He fell down and was bleeding profusely. He was immediately removed to SMHS hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Haleema, was on way to a private office in Srinagar, when she was hit by the police vehicle. She was admitted at SKIMS Bemina where she is being treated for multiple fractures and a liver injury.
Soon after the incident, massive clashes broke in the area with youth hitting the streets in protest against the death of the boy. Police resorted to aerial firing to disperse the protestors, who were demanding action against the erring driver.
Two persons sustained fire arm injuries and were taken to Bone and Joints Hospital Srinagar.
Police has registered a case FIR No: 03/2019 under relevant sections of law in this regard. Driver of the police vehicle has been arrested. “Further investigation in the matter is in progress”, a police spokesman said.
