LEH, Jan 28: Terming the efforts of Yashoda from Bihar are hallmark for the new age women, female delegates of Student Education Movement of Ladakh said, the book on Bihar women which focused on women empowerment almost 50 years ago is still relevant and lesson giving.
The delegates of Student Education Movement of Ladakh while speaking on re-launch of book here said the book will go a long way in upliftment of women folk in the country as a whole. The Central theme of the book is in the lessons of small stories of her unconventional initiatives, deeds and practices, which are hallmark for the new-age women too.
“Yashoda: ek Swamprabha stree ki waastweek Kahani” written by a senior journalist, Manoj Kumar Rao asks women to get inspired by Yashoda. In their traditional red dresses and hat the female delegates of Ladakh flourished the journey of Yashoda which indicated the nuances of women’s empowerment and self-worth, the ability to determine their own choices and the right to influence social change for themselves.
According to female delegates, “We all praise the courage of Yashoda, . Yashoda believes that healthy, educated, and empowered women and girls are the real agents of change,. Her efforts and inspirations help women and girls rise in social standing and feed this into future generations,”.
Almost 50 years ago, a small town woman from West Champaran district in Bihar gave a clarion call to women to feel empowered with their own voices and rise above stumbling blocks to make their places in society.
Yashoda Devi who belonged to Bettiah in Bihar showed the way by standing up for equality and against social and sex discrimination in the 1970s and drove this march with her indomitable spirit and courage of conviction.
All the 14 chapters of the Hindi book emphasize the implicit power and courage of women to fight widespread social, economic, and political barriers and successfully chase their dreams in a patriarchal society.
Speaking about the book, Manoj Kumar Rao said, ”My maiden book ‘Yashoda’ deals with several aspects of our society including untouchability, religious rituals, focus on female education and sterilization, fight for equality and drive against unsocial elements, and conservatism and features the inherent strength of women”.
