Strong navy guarantor of India’s security and prosperity: Defence Minister

NEW DELHI: A strong Navy remains a necessary guarantor of India’s security and prosperity, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Tuesday, addressing top commanders of the Indian Navy.

The commanders will extensively deliberate on emerging challenges facing the country in the maritime domain at a three-day conference which began on Monday.

In her address, Sitharaman touched upon various operational issues and said the primacy of the Carrier Battle Group (CBG) in maritime operations and its ability to shape the battle space was very evident.

CBGs are the large formation of battleships, which comprise aircraft carrier, anti-submarine vessels, destroyers, frigates, submarines and tankers.

The Defence Minister also complemented the Navy for its quick transition from “exercise mode to battle mode” following the Pulwama attack. (AGENCIES)
