JAMMU, Oct 15: The strike and protest of causal labourers of Estate Department entered 11th day today.
The casual labourers of Estate Department have been sitting on protest for last 10 days under the chairmanship of Kuldeep Raj Sharma (president of Estates Employees Casual labour Union, Jammu), in support of the demands including regularization of their jobs.
Addressing the protesting employees, Kuldeep Raj Sharma said that about 60,000 workers have been engaged in different departments by successive governments of J&K from time to time during last 25 years for smooth functioning of the Government work and since long these workers have been giving representation to the Government for regularization of their jobs but in turn the authorities at the helm of affairs continued to cause delay in delivery of injustice by constituting committees on committees with no desirable result.
Sharma said now the J&K Government is likely to recruit about 50,000 employees in different categories including 10,000 in Class IV cadre by direct recruitment but the Government has taken no decision on future of the already serving casual labourers. He demanded the Government to regularize all 60,000 casual labourers working in different departments before any fresh recruitment.
All Need based workers must be regularized under SRO-64 in one go, Sharma asserted and further demanded to implement Minimum Wages Act 2019 so that the Need based workers may at least provide basic living facilities to their family members.
