Various bodies of docs condemn DC’s behaviour

JAMMU, Oct 21: While the strike of the Medical staff in District Hospital Reasi continued on the second consecutive day, the Jammu Doctors’ Forum (JDF) has condemned the alleged irresponsible, arrogant, anti-people and inhuman behaviour of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Reasi, Prasanna Ramaswamy, for passing an impugned direction for arresting a duty bound doctor whereas Dr Ashwani, an orthopaedician was intended for medicare of the patients standing in queue at hospital and DC was all out to arrest the medico, “to teach a lesson”. This is a total reflection of colonial behaviour of British over India.
“We live in a democratic country, where one cannot suppress and police the public on excuse of law and order on whimsical grounds. Here the doctor had come to DC office to attend the patients on the direction of DC himself. Such behaviour from a person on an administrative post is highly deplorable. This amounted to insult a duty bound Government employee and obstructing its person to perform his duties that too the patient care. To satisfy his personal ego, the DC has humiliated a dedicated public servant,” JDF president Dr Satya Dev Gupta and general secretary, Dr Dushyant Choudhary said.
Jammu Doctors Forum (JDF), Doctors Association of Jammu (DAJ), Medical Teachers Association Jammu (MTA), National Medicos Organisation (NMO), Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK), Indian Medical Association (IMA) and many other doctors bodies have taken a serious notice of this happening. They said gone are the days when medical fraternity remained unresponsive to such incidences. Now, such arrogant and irresponsible persons will get a tough resistance and befitting response from the doctors community.
Jammu Doctors Forum appealed to the authorities at the helm of affairs to act upon and provide proper justice to the doctors’ fraternity to restore their confidence and respect. It said the egoistic officers like DC Reasi should be penalised to the extent that no one should prefer to satisfy his or her personal ego in the name of government duty.
They made a fervent request to the Governor S P Malik and Chief Secretary to solve this matter in proper way to uplift the moral of aggrieved party and prevent the situation from going out of control.
Meanwhile, the strike of the Medical staff continued in Reasi Hospital today. The Medical Superintendent Dr Prittam Singh said that dead lock still persists. The issue could not be resolved till late last night. The Director Health Services Jammu Dr Sameer Mattoo had come from Jammu today. He talked to the staff but they have refused to call off their strike till the DC Reasi tenders apology from the doctor or Govt takes action against him.
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) also condemned the behaviour of District Development Commissioner Reasi for harassing a senior doctor, Dr Ashwani Bhagat. It seems the said official is patient of power arrogance and he is not able to understand how shameful act he has done by arresting the on duty doctor, when around more 100 patients were waiting for his consultation.
Dr Ashwani was sent by Med Supt to visit DC Reasi for some health related issue. After giving professional consultation, Dr Bhagat requested the DC to let him go back to hospital where more than 100 patients were waiting for his consultation. But DC Reasi in the garb of VIP racism didn’t allow the said doctor to go back and continue his duties. Such an act of rowdiness from a most important official is certainly uncalled-for and is condemnable beyond words.
Meanwhile Doctors Association Kashmir fully supports the protest programme given by Doctor’s Association Jammu (DAJ) and threatened that they will also proceed on the strike if action under laws is not taken against accused. The said DC must tender an unconditional apology to the concerned doctor before things may go out of hand.
