Strike of casual, need based PDD workers enters 132nd day

JAMMU, Dec 31: Indefinite strike launched by the casual and need based workers of  Power Development Department  (PDD) entered the 132nd consecutive day today.
These workers are demanding regularization of their services, pending payments of their wages and timely release of the wages every month under a proper wage head. They alleged that despite long agitation  no senior officer or even the minister concerned bothered  to listen to their problems. They have been sitting on protest dharna outside the office of Chief Engineer M&RE Canal Road since long. They shifted the venue from  the office of Development Commissioner, Power  Janipur to Canal Road two weeks back.
The workers under the leadership of Akhil Sharma, State president  and Sesh Kumar, provincial president launched  the agitation in support of their long pending demands. They also addressed the agitating workers and condemned the attitude of the Govt.  They  urged upon the Govt to frame regularization policy for the temporary workers, release pending wages of seven years,  go for insurance  policy of the workers and provide compensation in case of death of such worker or in case of mishap resulting into disability.
During the meeting of the workers, the state president declared to join two day protest programme of the employees and workers on  January 3 and 4, 2017. He appealed to all the workers of the PDD to actively participate in the strike / protest demonstration on these two days.
