Sir,
This is in response to the article titled ” Strengthening Transparency Institutions” by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat (Excelsior August 1st). The the way columnist has highlighted the lukewarm attitude of the Government in addressing issues of corruption needs an applause. The author seems to have done an indepth research on the functioning of State Accountability Commission (SAC), State Vigilance Commission (SVC) and State Information Commission (SIC). It is a matter of shame that J&K State Accountability Commission (SAC) could decide only 28 cases during 8 years right from 2005 to 2013. The State Vigilance Commission (SVC) seems to be sailing in the same boat.
We pay taxes to run these institutions and the way they operate is a matter of serious concern. I was happy to know that State Information Commission (SIC) is at least working in our state where the RTI related cases are disposed off on regular basis. I appreciate Daily Excelsior for carrying such informative columns on good governance. I hope more and more informative columns related to good governance , transparency and accountability are carried in this paper in future.
Yours etc….
