Straight contest for top 4 positions, Pardeep elected unopposed as treasurer

JAMMU, May 5:  As  final battles lines for elections to Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) were drawn today, the last day of  withdrawal of nominations, Pardeep Kumar of English Department has been elected unopposed for the post of treasurer.
There would be a straight contest for the remaining top four position of the body, elections of which are going to be held May 11.
For the coveted post of president, J P Singh Joorel, former JUTA president and senior professor of Statistics Department, and Avtar Singh Jasrotia of Geology Department are in fray.
Satinder Singh of Law Department and Kavita Suri of Department of Lifelong Learning (DLL) are in a direct contest for the post of vice president as Virender Koundal, incumbent general secretary of JUTA, withdrew his nomination today.
Vijay Sehgal of Law Department and Jaspal Singh of DDE are in fray for the post of general secretary. Satinder Kumar of Law Department withdrew his papers for the position as he decided to contest for the post of vice-president.
For the post of joint secretary, four candidates including Savita Nayar of Law Department, Hema Gandotra of Sociology Department, Anuradha Goswami and Jaspal Singh, both from DDE had filed their nomination papers. However, Anuradha Goswami and Jaspal decided to withdraw their papers from the post.
Nearly 260 Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors will exercise their franchise to elect the new JUTA body. Term of the previous body had expired on January 16.
Mubark Singh of the Education Department has been appointed as election commissioner for the JUTA elections.
