Stolen property worth lakhs recovered; accused held

SRINAGAR, Jan 2: Police in Srinagar today said to have solved a theft case and arrested the accused persons involved in the commission of the crime while also recovering stolen property worth lakhs.
A police spokesperson said that on December 24, 2020, Police Post Bemina received a written complaint from one Danish Farooq of Hamdania Colony Bemina Srinagar, proprietor of a Copper shop in Zehra Complex situated at Hamdania Colony Bemina stating: “…during the intervening night of December 23/24, 2020 some unknown thieves have broken the shutter of the shop and stolen the copper utensils worth lacs.”
Accordingly, police said, a case vide FIR No. 270/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Parimpora and investigation was initiated.
“During the course of investigation, police inspected the scene of occurrence & completed all legal formalities including obtaining CCTV footage from the said shop and of adjacent areas. With the help of technical information and analysis of CCTV footage some suspects were identified,” police said.
It said that based on technical information, one suspect was zeroed in and was apprehended along with other four accomplices. “On their disclosure, stolen copper utensils worth lacs were recovered from Lasjan area,” police said.
Notably, in the last 20 days, Sub-division West Srinagar has solved the second theft case and recovered stolen property worth 19 lacs.
Police said that local Market Associations cooperated in installing CCTVs cameras at their business units as requested during various Police Public meetings held by the Subdivision to which they responded positively & consequently theft cases in the area have declined.
The installation of CCTVs, police said, has instilled a sense of security among the traders.
