Sir,
The sterling performance put by Indian women athletes like P V Sindhu, Sakshi Malik and Dipa Karmakar at Rio Olympics has made the nation proud. Though Dipa Kamakar could not win a medal, her brilliant execution of the highly risky produnova vault won her national applause. Besides, their success is a story of perseverance and determination. They have worked very hard to achieve this status.
However, the nation has to accept a hard reality that India figures nowhere in sports arena in the world, and it will take the country, one does not know, how much time to be competitive at the global level. The Sports Ministry should deliberate on this issue seriously, and work towards improving the sports sector in the country. It has become customary us to express our dismay over poor performance of players after conclusion of an event, but we never make a concerted efford to improve the standard of games in the country.
Yours etc…
