Present society is passing through a transitional phase of social change. There is a gradual atrophy in all aspects of culture in this West East continuum. Our values customs, folk ways, life style etc has undergone a sea change over the last few decades.
Status symbol which was hitherto a remote concept for our society has ingressed and pervaded to all strata of our society. Status symbol is attached with the items that we purchase from the market, cars that we drive, gadgets we have in our home. Status symbol is associated arranging grand marriage functions and a plethora of such things.
However, this culturally constructed status is not the status in the real sense of the word, the real status is that which is achieved through talent, hardwork, dedication to one’s duty and contribution towards the society. Status is a complete persona which encompasses intellectual, moral, economic, social or even spiritual aspect.
It is high time for the people to think logically and try to imbibe modern education and develop scientific temper and be productive elements of society. Society at the moment needs people of character who can give direction towards economic prosperity, clean environment, enlightenment through education and a disease free society.
