State in turmoil

Satish Bhat
Jammu, Kashmir and  Ladakh though geographically culturally and linguistically distinct provinces are politically unit into a State. Jammu is dominated by Hindus, Kashmir by Muslims and Ladakh by Budhists. Majority of people in Ladakh and Jammu feel that their respective provinces are being  neglected in every sphere of development and social, political and economic opportunities are being restricted. The State has been reeling under religious politics, fanaticism and regional intolerance. This religiuns and regional politics has widened the gaps between Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. This game of unawares is being played for so many years and gained momentum since 1947. The political leaders in India and even in State of Jammu and Kashmir attribute it as economic backwardness. But in reality it is overflow of Central funds and appeasement policy which has created unrest in the Valley. The regional disparity is the basis of disintegration of the provinces of Jammu and Kashmir. The myth of Kashmiriyat has lost relevence in the present scenario and is now a hollow slogan of.
It is a known fact that Jammu has emerged a symbol of democracy and composite culture. It has absorbed different cultures keeping in view high moral and ethical values. But it seems water has crossed the danger mark and it is very difficult to further test the patience of people of Jammu and Ladakh. The leaders of the State have never tried to address the genuine problems of all the provinces which resulted in the polarisation of masses on the regional and religious lives.
It is need of the hour to mention few facts which though hard to digest but necessary to draw the attention of the so-called great leaders to mend the ways for better future of the State :-
* The agitation on Amarnath land allocation was totally religious and politically motivated. It reflects the role of political leaders in exploiting the innocent people.
* The process of neutralizing a particular class from Govt Departments and changing of work culture has created resentment among  different sections of society.
* The partiality in allocation of funds and promotions in Govt Departments is clear indication of disparity.
* The forced exodus of lakhs of patriots from Valley and sterengthening of religious institutions with appeasement policy has further alienated one region from other.
* The encroachments on the properties of Govt and migrants has created a new mind  set up among people in Valley.
* The shifting of Agriculture College to Valley, setting up of REC (Now  NIT) and SKIMS, all for the welfare of a particular region.
* Creation of Administrative units on religion and regional basis has generated hatred among different provinces.
* Allocation of funds on regional basis. There is long list of such disparities which ultimately expose the political set up of our State which is not good for smooth going of the State. The general views of the people  and their mood reveals that our State is surely heading towards trifurcation.
