Start mobile vaccination programme for nomads: Rahi

JAMMU, May 16: Demanding that the government should immediately start special mobile vaccination programme for nomadic Gujjars, Bakarwals, Gaddis and Sippis, tribal researcher, Dr. Javaid Rahi today said that Coronavirus awareness among tribal communities of J&K is imperative in view of spread of the virus in rural areas.
Rahi was addressing a virtual meeting of Gujjars and Bakarwals here today to discuss the pandemic issues.
He said that in some rural areas the Tribal Gujjars-Bakarwals besides Gaddis and Sippis are hesitating to get vaccinated.
Rahi said here community leaders, influential people, media and the tribal youth have to play a positive role to convince nomadic population to get vaccinated in their respective areas.
He said that prominent peer Mian Bashir Ahmad, 100, who got two shots of COVID vaccination, is now in good health.
“Messages related to Corona awareness from top doctors are also being recorded in Gojri and are being circulated among the community members,” Rahi maintained.
Ishtiaq Misbah, Zulkarnain, Nazir Chouhan, Wazir Mohd, Sardar Khatana and others were also present.
