JAMMU, Feb 28: Students, Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) today appealed to the Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to save Jammu University from the major disaster in view of existing nepotism and dictatorial attitude of varsity authorities who are bent upon spoiling future of scholars and students of Jammu region.
Addressing a press conference, a number of scholars and students, who are allegedly being victimized under a well-planned conspiracy of the university authorities, said that there future was at stake and it would lead to a major disaster for the future generation of Jammu if the authorities were not reined in from harassing scholars and students.
“We have no intention to tarnish the image of JU, which is our own institution, but we are forced to raise our voice as the authorities have unleashed a terror on scholars and students by subjecting them to great mental harassment,” they said.
The aggrieved scholars sought the personal intervention of the State Governor, who happens to be Chancellor of JU, and the Chief Minister, who is Pro-Chancellor of the institution, to save their future besides stopping favouritism and nepotism in the varsity.
They also took on the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar for unnecessarily dragging the name of the Governor N N Vohra to unleash terror on students and settle his personal interests.
The SSJAC members threatened to sit on indefinite dharna outside Raj Bhawan if their grievances are not addressed.
Narrating his woes, Varinder Singh Chib, who has qualified NET, said the Vice-Chancellor has denied him admission in the university on flimsy grounds. “I made several attempts to put my pleas before the VC but he earlier refused to meet me. And when I met him, he told me that he was directed by the Raj Bhawan not to allow my admission in the university. It was a blatant lie and the VC has deliberately dragged the name of the Governor to fulfill the agendas of some touts of political parties,” Chib said.
“I fulfils the eligibility criteria to get admission in the university but the VC, who is being dictated by touts of political parties and some disgruntled elements in the varsity administration, has been mentally harassing me by not allowing the admission,” he further said adding that every person has the right to get education in this democratic set up.
Others who addressed the press conference, included Nishant Verma, (NET Qualified), Rajesh Prashar, Mohsin Raina, Ajit Verma, Abishek Koushal, Ajay Prashar and Praduman Singh.
