SSA collaborates with Pratham to deliver community driven learning program

SRINAGAR, July 15: ‘Nayi Rah’, a community driven learning program by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), J&K in collaboration with Pratham Education Foundation was launched today by State Project Director, SSA J&K, Saugat Biswas.
The programme was inaugurated at Government Primary School, Sheikh Colony in Iddgah zone of Srinagar in the presence of Farooq Ahmad, Chief Education Officer, Srinagar and Dr Sayyed Parveen, State Head, Pratham Education Foundation and impartant community members of the village.
The program aims at fostering a culture of group learning, enhancing learning outcomes of children by involving parents and community members. The program is being spread across 450 villages of 10 districts of Kashmir division in the first phase.
The focus will be on plugging learning gaps in children and developing a community environment where children learn on their own. Pratham Education Foundation is working with a batch of over 1300 community education volunteers who shall implement the program.
Basic learning material in language and Mathematics will be provided by Pratham and the program will be implemented through community volunteers. “Taleemi Darbars”, monthly community meetings would also be held with Government teachers, school authorities, parents and community members during the course of the engagement.
State Project Director informed that the students and community undergoing the program shall be able to carry forward their studies, even during the frequent bandhs, particularly in Kashmir valley. Biswas directed the officials to conduct a meeting of community leaders, parents and teachers from Srinagar for further discussion and seek suggestions for engagement. He encouraged and motivated the volunteers and teachers to make the program a success.
He informed that the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, J&K has also collaborated with Pratham Education Foundation, a national level organization for in-service teachers’ training of all Government primary teachers in 2017-18.
The event was also attended by Kakaji Pandit, Coordinator Pedagogy, SSA; Farhat Maqbool, Zonal Education Officer Iddgah and Zeshan Ahmad, State Coordinator, Pratham Education Foundation.
