The youth assembled in the Press Enclave and expressed their anguish over the increasing instances of drug abuse, particularly in Srinagar city.
The protesters said that while the administration is stating that they are taking measures to curb the menace of drugs, then how are these contraband substances easily available to the youth.
“The administration should take note of new wine shops coming up in various areas and at the same time, the drug dealers should be brought to book as it is because of them that a number lives have been destroyed,” a youth hailing from Dalgate said.
Another youth who identified himself as Amir said that if the Government is serious about curbing the menace of drug abuse, then it should not let new wine shops come up in Srinagar, “rather, the old ones should also be closed so that the youth who are vulnerable are saved,” he said.
He said that the youth of Kashmir are against drugs and that while they appreciate the efforts of the Government aiming at curbing the menace, “they have to understand that the easily available drugs are consuming tender lives,” he said.
