SRINAGAR, Jan 1: Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu today demanded disqualification of a woman Corporator who alleged sexual harassment at the hands of Mayor. He also said he would file a criminal defamation case against the woman Corporator.
Junaid said that he had the support of more than 40 of the Corporators of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation and has written to Jammu and Kashmir Governor S P Malik seeking disqualification of the woman Corporator for leveling false allegations.
“She wanted me to indulge in corruption which I cannot. She also wants her son’s appointment which I refused, that is the result of all this drama” Mattu said.
“I have evidence that she is working on behest and everything is being engineered by Sheik Imran,” he alleged.

Junaid said that he has not indulged in any kind of illegal appointment. “If it can be proved I will resign,” he said.
Earlier, the female Corporator told reporters that Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu and his PA Firdous Ahmed misbehaved with her in office chambers. “The Mayor has been continuously asking me to come along with him for ‘enjoyment’. I had submitted an estimate for Rs 25 lakhs for developmental works but the Mayor didn’t approve it asking me to accompany him to some place for ‘enjoyment'”, she alleged.
The Deputy Mayor, Sheikh Imran, refuted the allegations of Mayor saying that he has nothing to do with it. “Whatever has happened, it is between him and the woman Corporators”, he said.
Imran alleged that the Mayor is involved in illegal constructions and transfer of the ward officers. “He is sitting on the head of the SMC Commissioner and forcing him to do illegal works”, he said.
