Born on 15th of February 1967, Dushyant Sharma, former president Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) hailing from Jammu and Kashmir has numerous achievements under his belt in the field of Wrestling as player, official and administrator.
Presently working as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) in Jammu and Kashmir Police Department, Dushyant has brought laurels to the state as also to the country in the discipline of wrestling at the national and international scene.
At the national level, the ace wrestler has won a gold medal in Jr National Free Style Wrestling Championship in the year 1986 at Pune in Maharashtra and a silver medal in Junior National Greeco Roma Wrestling Championship in the same year and at the same venue.
Dushyant also has the distinction of bagging gold medal in 1st North Zone Wrestling Championship in the year 1987 at Chandigarh and a silver medal in All India Inter-University India Inter-University (1989), Senior National Wrestling Championship in 1990, 91, 92 and 93 and National Games in the year 1993 at Pune in Maharashtra.
At the International Level, Dushyant won 4th place in 6th Asian Wrestling Championship in 1989 at Championship held at Kurukshetra in Haryana in the year 1988, besides gold medals in All Oral in Japan, 5th place in 7th Asian Wrestling Championship in 1991 at Tehran in Iran, 5th place in 8th and 9th Asian Wrestling Championships at Tehran and Hiroshima in 1992 and 1993 respectively, besides winning a bronze medal in Takti International World Wrestling Championship in 1993.
He has the honour of receiving the prestigious Sher-e-Kashmir Award of the Jammu and Kashmir Government in the year 1989, the highest award for sportspersons in the state, besides winning lots of awards at the domestic and the national circuit.
The highest achievement in his life was to become the president of Wrestling Federation of India, defeating former Secretary-General Kartar Singh in the race for the top spot.
