Sports keep youth away from drug menace: IGP Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 11: Sports events keep the youth engaged in constructive and productive purposes. This will not only keep them physically fit, but also keep them away from the menace of drug addiction and other crimes, anti-social activities.
This was stated by IGP Jammu, Dr SD Singh Jamwal during closing ceremony of Martyrs’ Memorial Sports Tournament at Udhampur today.
Dr Jamwal declared closed the Martyrs’ Memorial Sports Tournament organized by Udhampur Police with focus on far flung areas of Ramnagar and Basantgarh in which matches in four events i.e, Cricket, Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Kabbadi were organized for rural youth.
Basant Kumar Rath, Depuy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range; Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range,  Rayees Mohammad Bhat, SSP Udhampur, Faisal Qureshi, Additional SP, Farrukh Qazi, SDM Ramnagar, Jagdev Singh Salathia, SDPO Ramnagar, Inspr.. Surinder Singh Sambyal, SHO PS Majalta, SI Sanjay Raina, SHO PS Ramnagar and other prominent citizens, sports personnel of Ramnagar and media fraternity of Ramnagar-Udhampur area were present on the occasion.
While speaking on the occasion IGP highlighted  the importance of sports activities especially in the lives of the youngsters belonging to far flung areas and said that the main objective of Jammu and Kashmir Police in organizing these Sports events is to keep the youth engaged in constructive and productive purposes.
This will not only keep them physically fit, but also keep them away from the menace of drug addiction and other crimes/anti-social activities. He laid stress on organizing more and more sports events for the youth to make them physically and mentally fit to meet any future challenges besides staying away from anti-social activities. About 500 youth of Ramnagar, Dudu, Basantgarh and other far flung areas participated in this sports mela.  IGP lauded the role of local youth, sports staff, general public and media fraternity in making the venture a success.
