3 OGWs arrested in Anantnag

Srinagar, Mar 31: A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed and another injured critically in two separate militant attacks in twin districts of South Kashmir today.
Militants fired upon SPO Mohammad Ashraf Mir near Murran Chowk at around 4:25 pm. Ashraf, a resident of Mouchpona village was critically injured in the attack and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
Ashraf, a former militant was working as an SPO in Cargo, Srinagar and at present was residing at Bagi-e-Mehtab area of Chanapora in Srinagar.
In another incident, militants opened fire upon another SPO Turlok Singh in Khanabal area of Anantnag district. The SPO was critically injured and has been shifted to district hospital Anantnag for treatment where from he was shifted to Army’s 92 base Hospital Badamibagh, Srinagar.

Meanwhile, police have registered cases in both the incidents and launched searches to nab the assailants.
A Police spokesman said: “Terrorists fired upon one person who was grievously injured at Murran Chowk, Pulwama and subsequently shifted to hospital. The injured man was identified as Mohammad Ashraf Mir resident of Mouchpona, Pulwama was presently residing at Chanapora, Srinagar. Consequently it was learnt that he was working as SPO and was currently off duty. Due to the multiple fire arm injuries, official succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom”.
A wreath laying ceremony was held at DPL Pulwama where floral tributes were paid to Mir. The ceremony was led by SSP Pulwama Aslam Choudhary, Additional SP Pulwama, DSP DAR Pulwama and other officers of police and security forces.
Militants this evening fired at an Army vehicle in Ladi area of Nuly Poshwari in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. However, there was no report of any casualties.
Militants hiding in orchards fired few rounds at a vehicle of Army’s Rashtriya Rifles. The Army personnel travelling in the vehicle retaliated by firing several shots, leading to a brief exchange of fire. The gunshots also created panic in the area.
The militants managed to escape from the spot and security forces comprising Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off the area to nab the militants responsible for the attack.
And in the meantime, security forces arrested three Over Ground Workers of militants in Anantnag district of South Kashmir after militants fired at security forces tonight.
They have been apprehended by 13 RR of Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police during searches at Kokagund Verinag in Anantnag district. They have been identified as Sahil Ahmad Dar of Bijbehara, Mehran Ahmad of Mattan Anantnag and Manzoor Ahmad of Sirhama Anantnag. A car in which they were travelling was also seized by security forces.
