JAMMU, Jun 1: Special Secretary to Government, Department of Forest, Ecology and Environment, Amit Sharma today conducted random visit of several check posts of Forest Department located in the outskirts of Jammu alongwith other officials, to observe their functioning and presence of requisite staff at these posts during the ongoing Covid times.
At Nagrota Forest Check Post, Sharma found that only one Deputy Forester namely Som Dutt was present and no other staff was available. He also checked records and registers available at the Check Post and gave instructions to make it a vibrant Check Post as it is first Check Post belonging to Urban Forestry Division of Jammu on the National Highway 44 heading towards Kashmir Region. It was also observed that proper signages on the Highway should be displayed on both sides so that there is proper visibility of this important Post.
During visit to Sidhra Check Post falling under Jammu Territorial Division, he interacted with Forest Gaurd Mohd Shafi who disclosed that recently they happened to catch hold of a vehicle with Police assistance which was smuggling Khairwood and they successfully chased and got hold of driver while seizing the vehicle.
He also inspected Forest Check Post, Kalu Chak falling under Urban Forestry Division Jammu wherein Forester, Sat Paul Singh was found on duty. He asked Forest staff there to wear proper uniforms while on duty as they are the real faces of Forest Department in public and also directed them to work with total dedication.
Before culminating the round, Sharma disclosed that a proposal to modernise the existing infrastructure by replacing them with E-Check Posts and the usage of GPS and real time monitoring with Internet-based technologies is already under active consideration of the Government and a proposal to this effect stands submitted to the higher authorities for approval so that the same could be implemented in Forest Territorial Department on a Pilot basis.
