Spike in Corona fatalities in Kashmir; Director CNS among 32 die, 2263 test +ve

DC Anantnag orders inquiry into deaths

SRIANGAR, May 18: Kashmir today reported a spike in the COVID-19 deaths with 32 persons including Director of a private internet providing company succumbing to the virus while 2,263 tested positive.
Those who died includes Javed Ahmad Mir, Director CNS Infotel Services Pvt Ltd. Mir was suffering from COVID-19 but had recently tested negative. CNS is the first private internet service provider in Kashmir.
Others who died include a 68-year-old woman from Baghat Srinagar, a 75-year-old woman from Rawalpora, an 80-year-old man from Khidam Nowshera, a 55-year-old woman from Pushwara Khanabal in Anantnag, a 65-year-old woman from Azadgunj Baramulla, an 80-year-old woman from Pattan, a 55-year-old woman from Reshigund Kralpora, an 89-year-old woman from Bemina Srinagar and a 50-year-old from Shopian.
The District administration in Anantnag ordered an inquiry into the allegation regarding belated treatment of patients at GMC Anantnag that led to death of a man’s mother and sister-in-law.
Taking immediate cognisance of a video clip on social media, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla ordered the time-bound enquiry into the matter.
In the video clip, youth detailed out how alleged belated treatment cost life of his mother and sister-in-law last week. “A video appeared in the social media wherein a person who recently lost his mother and sister-in-law due to Covid-19 levelled some allegations against the management of GMC Anantnag,” read the order.
“An indepth enquiry has become necessary to check the veracity of the allegations besides establishing facts and fixing the responsibility,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
“The Principal GMC Anantnag shall constitute a team of specialist doctors who shall conduct indepth enquiry, fix responsibility if any, and suggest measures for avoiding such incidents in future”, the order said.
Those who tested positive include 666 from Srinagar, 196 Baramulla, 454 Budgam, 127 Pulwama, 120 Kupwara, 156 Anantnag, 134 Bandipora, 116 Ganderbal, 190 Kulgam and 104 from Shopian.
As per officials figures, 59,191 positive cases including 701 deaths and 50,699 recoveries are from Srinagar, 18,352 including 226 deaths and 15,279 recoveries are from Baramulla, 16,852 including 12,479 recoveries and 154 deaths are from Budgam, 11,014 including 8,386 recoveries and 142 deaths are from Pulwama, 9,616 including 126 deaths and 7,755 recoveries are from Kupwara, 11,931 including 7,697 recoveries and 140 deaths are from Anantnag, 7,224 cases including 6,059 and 78 deaths are from Bandipora, 7,166 including 6,032 recoveries and 64 deaths are from Ganderbal, 8,114 including 4,594 recoveries and 83 deaths are from Kulgam and 4,642 including 3,457 recoveries and 47 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 154,102 including 122,437 recoveries and 1,761 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 50,925 including 29,904 from Kashmir division.
With 3,823 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 197,701 which is 78.47 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, the Corona Curfew imposed by the government continued to remain in place for the 19th day across Kashmir today while police arrested 157 persons and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 1,33,275 for norms violation in the Valley.
The Government imposed Corona Curfew in Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir on April 29 and it has been extended for the four times so far. Recently, the government extended the Corona Curfew across 20 districts of J&K till May 24, 2021.
Police and paramilitary troops were deployed in large numbers across Kashmir to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places to prevent the public movement.
All the shops and business establishments barring emergency services remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir.
Police arrested 157 persons, lodged 83 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 1,33,275 from 869 people for violating the guidelines and rules throughout Kashmir.
“Besides, 55 vehicles and two motorcycles were also seized in Baramulla and Bandipora for violating guidelines and restrictions. Five shopkeepers were also booked by police in Budgam for violating Covid-19 norms,” a police spokesman said.
