Special training programme on JJA held

SRINAGAR, May 3: Special interaction- cum- training program for Police officers of District Police Srinagar was held today at DPL here.
A Police spokesman said that SSP Srinagar, Imtiaz Ismail Parray was the chief guest on the occasion, Chairperson CWC (Child Welfare Committee) Munazah Gulzar attended the program as a special guest, DySP Hq Srinagar, Senior Prosecuting Officer DPO Srinagar, Prosecuting Officers & Juvenile Justice Officers of various Police Stations including  SHOs participated in the event.
He said senior PO DPO Srinagar, Zia-ur-Rehman threw light on the importance of Juvenile Justice Act & consequent responsibilities of Police to implement this law in letter & spirit without procedural lacunas.
The spokesman said that the Prosecuting Officer, Danish Gul while discussing Juvenile Justice Act in detail said that Juvenile Justice Act has been drafted with a focus on adopting “reformative approach” in dealing with delinquent juveniles & to provide cover to the juveniles who are in conflict with law & to uphold various UN conventions on Juvenile Justice & basic human rights.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson CWC, Munazah Gulzar said that Juvenile Justice Rules have been made not only to provide protection to the juveniles who are in conflict with law but also for those in contact with law.
She said it is the responsibility of the police officer to ensure protection of the juvenile in conflict or in contact with law and revealed that JJB (Juvenile Justice Board) has been constituted to look into legal issues related to juvenile delinquents.
She stressed for the coordination & cooperation among different stake-holders like Police, CWC, and Judiciary in dealing with the juveniles in conflict with law as well as in contact with law.
SSP Srinagar, Imtiaz Ismail Parray while speaking on the occasion said that the first contact which a juvenile in conflict with law faces is police & it is the responsibility of police officer to ensure protection of the juvenile in compliance with all the legal parameters pertaining to juvenile justice. “A humanitarian appr-oach needs to be adopted for such juveniles, which are important to reform them & segregate them from the criminals,” he said.
Senior PO DPO, Zia-ur-Rehman said that mission of the Juvenile Justice Act is to provide relief to the juveniles in conflict with law as it is presumed that Juveniles are immature.
