JAMMU, Oct 21: Special Secretary, Amit Sharma today shared several Smart Road Safety Initiatives at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu during the inaugural session of 5-day training programme on road safety being held here in collaboration with Asian Institute of Transport Development (AITD).
D.P Gupta, Director AITD; Prof Manoj Singh Gaur, Director IIT Jammu and Dr. Ankit Kathuria from Civil Engineering Department were also present.
Speaking on the occasion the Special Secretary shared several SMART initiatives relating to road safety which included putting-up command and control center, installation of intelligent traffic lighting system, raising of speed radars on highways, initiation of auto-challaning system, implementation of lane driving system etc.
He also shared his experiences while serving as SDM in hilly terrains like Dudu Basantgarh where road safety is still the utmost requirement.
Sharma said that all efficient engineers should take the challenge of incorporating mass improvements like filling pot-holes and black spots on the vulnerable roads in tough tracks and roads like the ones in Chenab valley where road accident rate has always remained very high.
Director AITD shared various technical perspectives and steps being taken by MoRTH in spreading mass awareness and helping all States and UTs in maintaining best safety conditions on roads so as to bring down the quantum of deaths on roads which leave a direct negative impact upon the GDP of the nation.
IIT Jammu Director Prof Manoj Singh Gaur complimented the Civil Engineering team of the Institute led by Dr Ankit Kathuria for organising the programme which covered a lot of relevant road safety related issues.
