Special plantation drives launched

JAMMU, Aug 20: “Van Mahotsav”, a special plantation drive to plant one lakh saplings in Rajouri and Poonch districts, was launched by Rashtriya Rifle Sector, under Romeo Force at Mendhar, today.
The Van Mohotsav is celebrated to spread awareness amongst the people about the Green and Clean Environment and the harmful effects of deforestation. Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, based at Mendhar has taken the initiative to collect saplings from the forest and Horticulture Departments and distribute the same to the locals and school children for plantation.
The grand festival was witnessed by various eminent personalities, school children, Army Officers and Jawans. The enthusiasm shown by the people to be a partner with the Army in this initiative to save the environment was really appreciable.
Speaking on the occasion, the guest of honour Walidad Choudhary, applauded the efforts being undertaken by the Indian Army and expressed gratitude to the locals for coming forward with the noble idea of “Green Environment – Clean Environment”.
80 Bn of Border Security Force (BSF) Sunderbani planted hundreds of fruit & shadow trees in different places in presence of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Surjeet Singh.
In this plantation drive, BSF has undertaken a unique initiative for protection of environment by planting large number of trees simultaneously.
On this occasion, 550 trees of various type were planted. These include 135 fruits bearing trees 65 ornamental & 350 shadow trees. It is also worth mentioning here that such type of plantation drive has been undertaken simultaneously at all BSF location with an aim to plant 1,80,000 trees needless to say that such endeavors will help in preservation of environment and will also encourage other agencies and general public to contribute meaningfully for this noble cause.
In compliance to Director General ITBP instructions, plantation programme was conducted in unit campus of 15th Bn and its forward posts located at Leh.
During plantation programme near about 5000 saplings were planted. Out of these 5000 saplings, 2000 were planted in unit campus by Mahendra Pratap, Comdt 15th Bn. Near about 3000 saplings were also planted near forward posts located at Leh.
