SRINAGAR, May 22: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul chaired a meeting of senior officers of Social Welfare (SW) and Labour Departments held here today to review the working of these departments.
Threadbare discussion was held on various issues including utilization of funds under Centrally sponsored schemes, launching of awareness programmes and conduct of survey of un-registered labour section.
The Speaker directed the authorities to ensure early sanctioning of financial assistance to the widows. He also stressed upon the officers to give wide publicity of these Khidmat Centres so that maximum deserved and needy persons can avail benefits from the welfare schemes meant for the weaker sections of the society.
While discussing the issuance of Income Certificates under BPL category, Mr. Gul asked the concerned to ensure immediate issuance of these certificates.
The Speaker also directed the concerned to send a proposal to the Central Government for release of funds for completion of under construction old age homes. He also asked for conduct of the survey of children of weaker section living at Pamposh Colony, SDA Colony, Sweeper Colony Noorbagh and other areas of Eidgah constituency so that the benefits of the schemes could reach to the needy at an earliest.
While discussing the issues related to Labour Department, the Speaker asked the Labour Commissioner to register all unregistered labourer class of the State.
Mr. Gul called for holding a survey camp at Goripora in Eidgah Constituency as early as possible so that spot registrations of labourers would be conducted.
It was informed in the meeting that Rs.4.92 crore has been released under education loan among the children of the labour class of Srinagar district so far.
Earlier, Labour Commissioner, Nirmal Sharma, Director Social Welfare Department, Kashmir, Nissar Hussain briefed the Speaker about the activities of their respective departments.
Among others, Deputy Labour Commissioner, Kashmir, Ghulam Rasool Kumar, District Social Welfare Officer, Srinagar, Riyaz Ahmad, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Srinagar, G A Khan, Secretary Construction Board, Syed Murid Hussain  were present on the occasion.
