Speaker directs Govt to take note of alleged work allotted to PDP workers without tendering

SRINAGAR: The State Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta today directed the Government to take note of allegations that tenders worth Rs 50 to Rs 75 lakh were given to ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) workers by Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) without e-tendering in Bandipora district.

However, the Government said the issue will be inquired and strict action will be taken against anyone found involved.

As soon as the Legislative Assembly starting this morning, main opposition National Conference member Muhammad Akbar Lone alleged that in Shadipora area in his Sonawari constituency, the Government had allotted work to PDP workers without issuing any tenders.

Hitting out at the Government, he said the current regime claims to provide corruption-free governance in the State, but they were the same people who were encouraging it in his constituency.

Mr Lone added that he will resign from the seat if the Government proved that it has issued tenders for the work. Mr Lone requested the Speaker to intervene and direct the Government to inquire into the incident.

The Speaker then directed the Government to take note of the issue. (AGENCIES)
