SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today directed the State Government to frame a policy for giving cash awards to outstanding sportspersons on the pattern followed in states like Haryana and expeditiously settle the case of Asian Gold medalist Chain Singh in a time bound manner.
The Speaker gave these directions on a Calling Attention Notice moved by Rajiv Jasrotia.
Mr. Gupta directed the Government to peruse the case of Chain Singh and settle it in a time bound manner. He also asked the Government to pace up the framing of policy for awarding sports persons of the state and in this regard get the committee constituted for the purpose submit its report at the earliest.
Chain Singh represented India in 17th Asian Games in South Korea in 2014 and won bronze medal in 50 Mtr Rifle event. Earlier also in the 7th Asian Championship at Kuwait he won one Gold and one Bronze medal in individual 10 Mtr rifle and team event category.
Earlier replying to the Notice , Minister for R&B and Floriculture, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari informed the House that a committee for framing a standing policy for granting cash and land award to outstanding sports persons has been constituted by the Government which would submit its recommendations shortly.
