SOS Children’s Villages celebrate Dr Hermann Gmeiner’s birthday

JAMMU, June 23: SOS Children’s Villages today celebrated its Founder, Dr. Hermann Gmeiner’s birthday.
A handout stated that June 23rd is remembered as a special day in SOS Children’s Villages-the birth of Dr. Hermann Gmeiner and is celebrated across 135 countries and territories worldwide in all Children’s Villages and facilities as ‘SOS Day’.
Austrian philanthropist, Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, started providing a secure and loving home with a family and a mother, to children without parental care, abandoned and those who are at the risk of abandonment across the globe, for nearly seven decades now.
On this occasion, Sumanta Kar, Deputy National Director Integrated Child Care, SOS Children’s Villages of India said, “Dr. Gmeiner initiated a unique concept of building families for abandoned and parentless children in the world, and today, children in over 130 countries in the world are benefited.”
In SOS Children’s Village Jammu, the celebrations began with a traditional welcome to the invited guests, followed by garlanding, lighting of lamp and paying floral tribute to Dr. Gmeiner.
A colorful cultural progarmme was presented by the children of SOS Children’s Village Jammu.
The chief guest G.A Sofi, Mission Director, ICPS J&K, blessed the children and gave away prizes to those who excelled in academics and sports.
Sofi also launch the book – “Tracking Footprints of Settled Youths” which was conducted by a third party on behalf of SOS Children’s Villages of India.
