‘Soorma’ gets ‘U’ certificate from censors

NEW DELHI: Shaad Ali’s first ever biopic ‘Soorma,’ which is based on the inspirational life of a former Hockey player, got a Universal (U) certificate from the Censor Board on Thursday.
‘Soorma’ is the story of a forgotten hero Sandeep Singh, whose life is bound to inspire every individual, as the former Hockey Captain rose to glory, even after facing numerous problems in his life.
Director Shaad expressed his joy over the news, saying “Getting a U certificate feels really great as it encourages the kids to come and get inspired from a hockey legend.
Families and kids can come together and have a great experience as it is an inspirational film. I am really thankful to the Censor Board as U certification will help the film in getting a wider audience.”
The film has been shot in Sandeep’s hometown Shahabad, to capture the real essence of his struggle and the journey to become the hockey legend. The trailer of the film had garnered immense appreciation from across the audience. It is an inspiring true story of the human spirit, about a player, who made headlines for his miraculous comeback after an unfortunate accident.
It is a lesser known fact that Sandeep has been hailed as one of the world’ most dangerous drag-flickers of all time, with drag speeds of over 145 km/hr, which led to his nickname, ‘Flicker Singh’. ‘Soorma’ will feature Diljit Dosanjh essaying the role of Sandeep alongside Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi in pivotal roles. Produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions, Chitrangda Singh, and Deepak Singh, ‘Soorma’ is written and directed by Shaad Ali and is slated to release on July 13. (AGENCIES)
