Sonia revokes Brar’s suspension order

NEW DELHI : Former Congress MP Jagmeet Singh Brar, who was suspended from the party last year after he suggested that the Congress president and Rahul Gandhi should hand over party’s reins to someone else, is back with Sonia Gandhi today revoking his suspension.
The revocation of his suspension came days after he met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi twice and cleared the “misunderstanding”.
Brar, a former Congress Working Committee member was suspended in August last year after he criticised the party’s functioning and suggested that Sonia and Rahul should take a break and hand over charge to some other leader.
“There was some misunderstanding, which Brar cleared when he met the Congress President and Vice President. Party President Sonia Gandhi ji has revoked his suspension,” AICC general secretary in-charge for Punjab Shakeel Ahmed told.
Brar had met Sonia and Rahul on July 27 and then again Sonia on August 5.
In a statement, Brar’s office said that he met the Gandhis to clear the misunderstanding between them.
Back in the party fold, Brar expressed his gratitude to Sonia and Rahul, saying the decision to revoke his suspension reflects their genuine desire and resolve to promote unity in the Congress particularly in Punjab. (AGENCIES)
