NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi were today granted bail in the high profile National Herald case.
The bail bond of Rs 50,000 each was furnished. Senior Congress leader and veteran lawyer Kapil Sibal argued for the Gandhis.
Petitioner Subramanian Swamy had, however, opposed the bail.
Talking to reporters, Mr Sibal said an unconditional bail has been granted to both Ms Gandhi and Mr Gandhi.
Mr Swamy had, however, prayed that the court should hold back their passports and prevent them from going abroad, Mr Sibal added.
”However, the Judge rejected the plea of Mr Swamy and fixed the next date of hearing on February 20 at 1400 hrs,” he said.
The three others accused in the case were also granted bail on surety of Rs 50,000 each.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra gave the surety for Mr Gandhi while senior Congress leader A K Antony gave surety for Ms Gandhi. (UNI)
